Leeds Harmonica Tuition

Cameo of Kevin Bishop with a harmonica in his mouth

Learning to play blues harmonica well requires dedication and focus but is extremely rewarding and a lot of fun. I offer one to one blues harmonica tuition sessions for beginning and intermediate players.

I can teach you the skills and techniques you need to be a fully rounded musician in the classic Chicago Blues style of players like Little Walter, Sonny Boy Williamson, Big Walter Horton and James Cotton.

I’m accredited to teach new students by master blues musician and instructor David Barrett.

I can offer specific instruction and support on playing techniques, getting good tone, note bending, tongue blocking, improvisation, soloing, accompaniment playing, music theory and more.

My aim is to make the sessions challenging (based on your current skills) but fun too. I’m patient and supportive. I love to help peoples skills develop. I provide study songs, jam tracks and plenty to keep you busy between sessions.

One to one sessions can be arranged in person in the Leeds area or via Skype. Sessions are offered at an affordable rate.

Here are some testimonials from current students:

“I would highly recommend Kevin Bishop of Leeds Harmonica. I am 76 years old, and have always wanted to play the blues. I’ve learned loads of techniques and 10 complete songs, and now I’m starting to improvise over a blues progressions. Going from a guy who couldn’t bend a note to where I am now is amazing – thanks to Kevin and his knowledge of the harp. Not only is Kevin a good teacher, he is a very nice man.

“I really enjoyed the lesson this morning. It exceeded my expectations so can’t wait to meet again.  In the meantime I will practice!”

— Beginner Student after first session.

“It’s worth today’s money just to have shown to me what I’ve missed!”

— Intermediate Skype student

“Just back in from my first visit to Sleepy Kev Bishop at Leeds harmonica,…… had an absolute blast and learned so much tonight! Cheers Kev!”

— Andy Frear

“Thanks so much, he’s been practicing all morning! Absolutely loved his lesson yesterday, couldn’t wait to show me what he’s learned. He’s thoroughly enjoying it and I honestly can’t thank you enough. He is so happy!”
